Genealogical vertical files, [ca. 1700-1986]

Genealogical notes and charts, genealogists' correspondence, clippings and other printed materials, finished genealogies in typescript, and copies of town, church, military, and cemetery records and tombstone inscriptions. Material was created or gathered by numerous genealogists working from approximately the mid-19th century to the present. It documents the histories of approximately 2,000 families, mostly from New York State, with some from New England, New Jersey, and a few from elsewhere in the U.S. Also included among these files is a small amount of original 18th and 19th century family documents including correspondence, wills, deeds, and other legal documents, and photocopies of the family records that were inscribed in Bibles.
